SUBJECTIVE PERSPECTIVES
I see the world in my way, I have spent years getting there, and I have certain blind spots, true ones, that I don't even know exist. There are some things that I simply cannot understand that nevertheless are axiomatic to others. Examples include how married couples relate, what kind of manners children have, how hierarchy functions, how important punctuality is, what is appropriate in displaying anger, and so on. All these can be cultural issues. But no one can be a leader who does not cultivate the capacity to see the world through the eyes of another or fathom the legitimacy of language, attitudes, and behaviors that to oneself are not even a concept. We need this tolerance for diversity to be good people, but also to be good businesspeople, be it managing a team or marketing a product. And whenever we lead or consult, we must be conscious of the subjective perspective from which we are operating.
